Deep storiform spindle cell tumour. Bland cytology, myxoid change

DD: nodular fasciitis (feathery myxoid change); desmoplastic MM

Fascicles of dense fibrosis with bland spindle cells.

Case 2186 25.10.18 (P Perret)F 10 large mass in popliteal fossa

Needle biopsy. Plump spindle cells in a fibrous stroma without atypia. Betacatenin+ve. This distinguishes fibromatosis from low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma. Mutation of CTNNB1 gene seen in Gardner’s syndrome with cutaneous fibromata in assoc. with intra-abdominal tumours and colonic polyps.
