I would have gone for linear IgA first mainly because it is very rare to have a nice lesion of DH (that has not been rendered non-diagnostic by excoriation) - Phillip was very lucky to have this case with an intact lesion. Regards and seasons greetings to all.

Sweet's syndrome is a very good differential diagnosis as is erysipelas. The patient however showed the typical clinical manifestations of dermatitis herpetiformis and this is a biopsy of a very early lesion showing neutrophil microabscesses and edema. Note that they are multiple and with progression would have given rise to the typical multilocular lesion seen in dermatitis herpetiformis. Obviously the clinical information would have made the diagnosis much easier.
