Happy birthday Richard. Sometimes you have to think laterally!!!! This is a very difficult case and in fact represents a pseudovascular squamous cell carcinoma confirmed with keratin immunohistochemistry.

The inflammatory cells (both plasma cells and some neutrophils) in the third image favours to me the diagnosis of ulcerated pyogenic granuloma I hope I am on the right track!!!
