Favor cryptococcosis. Definitely histoplasmosis should be excluded. Will do PAS and a mucin stain like Alcian Blue or Mucicarmine to confirm the presence or absence of the mucinous capsule of cryptococus.

This is cryptococcosis (gelatinous variant). The pseudocapsule and associated vacuole of histoplasmosis is rarely as prominent as the true capsule in cryptococcosis. Special stains to high-light the capsule will solve the issue. The patient had HIV/AIDS.
