I think there's too much inflammation and papillary oedema for lichen simplex.  The rete ridge fusion and patchy parakeratosis are somewhat suspicious of pityriasis rubra pilaris but the clinical description is rather against this.  On balance I would say this is atypical psoraisis - the pathology may have been modified by the steroid/calcipotriene therapy.
