Feel the creative pulse of the coolest little capital in the world, a compact urban city with a natural soul. Embraced by ocean and hill, Wellington sets the native and historic stories of the youngest country on earth against world class coffee, cocktails and cuisine. New Zealand’s picturesque political centre is packed with cafes, bars, restaurants, galleries, public art, sanctuaries and innovative museums, earning the city its reputation as the country’s cultural hub.
The home of Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is easily navigated by foot, guided or hop on-hop off tour, or courtesy of a convenient public transport network. Tours of The Lord of the Rings movie locations and the Weta Cave are a popular activity in the city fondly known as ‘Wellywood’, which is also the production centre for The Hobbit films. The stories of the southern skies are told at Carter Observatory and just minutes from the central city lies ZEALANDIA: The Karori Sanctuary Experience, a world leading 500-year vision to restore a piece of New Zealand to its pre-human state. Combined with the neighbouring boutique wine region of Wairarapa, Wellington is a not-to-be-missed destination of superlative natural beauty and good taste that merges small village charm with big city style.
