    18 March 2013      22 March 2013

On behalf of AMIA, it is my pleasure to invite submissions for the 2013 Summit on Translational Bioinformatics (TBI). Translational Bioinformatics focuses on applications of bioinformatics innovations in the context of human health and disease, and touches nearly all areas of biological, biomedical, and clinical research. Since 2008, the TBI Summit has been the premier forum for interacting with leaders in informatics at the interface of biology and health care.

For the 6th Annual TBI Summit, the Scientific Program Committee will continue to offer the highest quality cutting edge research in Translational Bioinformatics through a variety of formats. We also plan to emphasize the aspects of the Summits that set this meeting apart from many others such as a wide variety of exciting and informative panels and significant opportunities for networking. We are also planning some novel additions to the program, both to facilitate the dissemination of ideas among established researchers, and to train the next generation of informatics scholars.

We recognize the pressure researchers face to reserve one’s best work for submission to journal publications. We also recognize the value, both to the investigator and to the scientific community, in sharing one’s most exciting work sooner than later. We, therefore, encourage submissions of the Translational Bioinformatics community’s best work in the form of short papers or podium presentations, while maintaining the ability to extend the work for follow-up publication in a peer reviewed journal. Top conference proceedings papers will be given priority consideration for expansion for a special issue of JAMIA.

We expect 2013 to be the most exciting TBI Summit yet. We look forward to seeing you in San Francisco.

The ASCCP Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) course best serves those licensed physicians and advanced practice clinicians who are intermediate to advanced in their level of medical knowledge and colposcopic practice. It is expected that most participants are interested in learning LEEP in order to offer a wider range of treatment to the women in their communities. Participants will have either taken a basic colposcopy course or undergone a colposcopy rotation in residency and desire more in-depth learning about LEEP. After successfully completing the course, participants are expected to conduct hands-on mentored performance training as required for credentialing in new procedures by their home institutions, as the course will not prepare participants for independent practice. Participants will likely be those who have a sufficient patient volume to ensure that LEEP skills will be maintained.
