Final announcement

    Aims of the Technical Workshop
To provide a clear understanding of the principles and practice of antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
To demonstrate and allow participants to perform disc , microbroth and automated susceptibility testing methods.
To provide an update on new and emerging issues in antimicrobial resistance, and on current detection methods.
To provide an overview of antibiotic reporting and surveillance.

    Target Audience
Microbiology Technologists, Microbiologists or other interested persons working in the field of infectious diseases and susceptibility testing.
Places on the practical course will be limited to 20 participants.

    Format
This technical workshop will comprise of small group practical sessions including practical, hands-on exposure to laboratory techniques and various susceptibility test methods. Advice and guidance will be given on test methodology, reading, interpretation and detection of antibiotic resistance phenotypes. Participants are encouraged to test, interpret and report susceptibility tests, using a test panel of organisms.
The lecture sessions are designed to provide a theoretical background to accompany the practical training sessions. Lectures will also include basic principles of susceptibility testing, antibiotic PK/PD, combination antibiotic testing, clinical aspects of infections, antibiotic reporting and antibiotic surveillance.
Dear pathologists,

On behalf of the International Academy of Pathology and the Association of Directors of Pathology of China, I would like to welcome you to the Second Neuropathology Course we are organizing in the Asia Pacific region. This will be held on September 27-29, 2013 at the Postgraduate Education Centre, Prince of Wales Hospital, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The first course conducted two years ago (http://webapps.acp.c....hk/course/Eng/) was a big success and we are very proud to offer this second course.

While there may be slight overlap, this course is very different from the first course and caters for the needs of the diagnostic, general pathologists. The emphasis will be on brain tumours, including new entities and molecular diagnostics, as many general pathologists have to handle brain tumour specimens but we will not forget to have something on non-neoplastic neuropathology too where general pathologists "with an interest in neuropathology" sometimes have to give an opinion on.

The faculty includes many international experts, including four speakers from the WHO Brain Tumour Classification Panel in 2007 and 2015 (preliminary): Roger MCLENDON, Max KROS, Felice GIANGASPERO and HK NG.

I hope you will come and enjoy Hong Kong too, a fascinating city in every sense of the word!

H.K. Ng, Chairman, Education Committee, International Academy of Pathology and Chairman, Association of Directors of Pathology of China
