Case 598 24.9.12 (P. McKee) M 46 pneumonia and widespread skin nodules (HIV/AIDS)

Gelatinous variant. The pseudocapsule and associated vacuole of histoplasmosis is rarely as prominent as the true capsule in cryptococcosis. Special stains to highlight the capsule will solve the issue.

Case 908 11.12.13 (H. Diwan) M 58 multiple haemorrhagic crusted lesions esp. head and neck ?zoster (*teaching)

Beautiful histology. Numerous small encapsulated gelatinous yeasts. No inflammatory reaction. Patient probably immunosuppressed. Mucicarmine would show narrow-based budding.

Case 1055 9.7.14 (H. Diwan) M 47 foot lesion

Paucireactive gelatinous pattern with trans-epidermal elimination. Patient was immunosuppressed.

Spores larger than histoplasmosis or LD bodies.
