Case 1192 16.1.15 (R. Carr) F 55 buttock (and lichen sclerosus – dual pathology)
Subtle dermal changes compatible with LS. Stratum corneum thicker than might be expected for buttock. Barely discernible organisms in s.c. – shown nicely as vertically arranged beaded filamentous bacteria on Gram stain.
Case 1335 5.8.15 (H. Diwan) F 28 vulva
Subtle filamentous bacteria in stratum corneum, visible on H+E.
Case 1918 5.10.17 (R. Carr) M 40 groin rash - ?tinea/ contact dermatitis
The bacteria are present very subtly in the stratum corneum as rather dusty basophilic material. This biopsy shows striking artefactual perinuclear vacuolation (“owl’s eye”) change in the suprabasal keratinocytes. This is different to Pagetoid “dyskeratosis” (q.v.)
Case 3083 28.4.22 (S. Taibjee) F 61 pruritic rash axillae and groins
More subtle than other examples. Tiny blue filamentous structures in stratum corneum seen better with Gram stain.
