Case 838 3.9.13 (M. Hurt) F 75 pigmented lesion forearm
Circumscribed area of epidermis with enlarged keratinocytes, hyperpigmentation and hyperkeratosis. Nosology has been debated for years. Probably best regarded as a solar lentigo with cellular hypertrophy. Does not behave like an actinic keratosis i.e. does not respond to Efudix. Ref: J Cutan Pathol 2014; 41: 733.
Case 1541 20.5.16 (R. Carr) ?actinic keratosis
Focal area of compact orthohyperkeratosis. Beneath this the keratinocytes are larger and slightly paler than their neighbours, but show no dysplasia. No obvious increased pigmentation. These apparently are quite common. Melan-A shows no increase in melanocyte number, and Ki67 shows basal and suprabasal staining.
Case 1901 11.9.17 (L. Yu) F 56 arm
Band of epidermis showing basal layer pigmentation with scattered paler cells above. These cells looked pyknotic with perinuclear vacuolation. Controversial entity ? variant of Bowen’s or solar keratosis.
