Case 1541  20.5.16 (R. Carr)  ?actinic keratosis 

Focal area of compact orthohyperkeratosisBeneath this the keratinocytes are larger and slightly paler than their neighbours, but show no dysplasiaNo obvious increased pigmentationThese apparently are quite commonMelan-A shows no increase in melanocyte number, and Ki67 shows basal and suprabasal staining. 

 

Case 1901 11.9.17  (L. Yu)  F 56 arm 

Band of epidermis showing basal layer pigmentation with scattered paler cells aboveThese cells looked pyknotic with perinuclear vacuolationControversial entity ? variant of Bowen’s or solar keratosis.
