Uma Sundram Dr Uma Sundram, MD, PhD, received her MD and PhD degrees from Stanford University in Stanford, CA, in 1999, as a Fairchild Scholar. She completed her residency in Anatomic Pathology and fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Stanford, counting among her mentors Drs. Richard Kempson, Ronald Dorfman, and Roger Warnke. She then completed her dermatopathology fellowship with the late Dr. Sabine Kohler, who was her colleague and mentor until 2008. Dr. Sundram served several leadership roles at Stanford, including interim Medical Director and Fellowship Program Director. She left Stanford in early 2015 to join Associated Pathology Medical Group in Los Gatos, CA. In October 2015 she moved with her family to the metro Detroit area and is now Clinical Professor of Pathology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and an attending Dermatopathologist at Beaumont Health Systems in Royal Oak, MI. Dr. Sundram has published over 50 peer reviewed articles, written several book chapters, and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology. |

Richard A Carr Dr Richard A. Carr MBChB, BMedSci, FRCPath, Dip. RCPath (DMT) Consultant Histopathologist and Specialist Dermatopathologist, Warwick Hospital, UK. Dr Carr qualified in 1991 from Sheffield University Medical School and trained in cellular pathology in Birmingham and the South East Thames Regional Rotation culminating in 4 years as a Clinical Lecturer at St Thomas' Hospital, London. Dr Carr previously participated in an international study funded by the National Institutes of Health in to the pathology of cerebral malaria. Dr Carr developed his interest in Dermatopathology training with world renowned experts Dr Phillip H. McKee and Dr Eduardo Calonje at St Thomas' hospital and the St John's Institute of Dermatology. Dr Carr has the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) Diploma in Dermatopathology (set at expert referral level) and became an examiner for the diploma in 2005. Dr Carr receives cases for expert opinions from other histopathologists throughout the UK. Dr Carr is on the executive committee of the UK Dermatopathology EQA scheme. Dr Carr has authored/co-authored around 80 published papers and lectures regionally, nationally and internationally in dermatopathology. Dr Carr also has active research interests in dermatopathology and laboratory organisation in cellular pathology and is a member of the RCPath working group for workload and job planning in cellular pathology. Dr Carr organises a slide of club of leading experts in the field of melanocytic pathology (allied with the National Dermatopathology EQA scheme), is committed to post-graduate teaching and receives regular local, national and international visitors to share his extensive slide collection. Dr Carr participates in the e-learning site, Dermpathpro, providing regular cases for the popular “Spot Diagnosis” section. Arti Bakshi Dr Arti Bakshi, MD, FRCPath, DipRcPath (Dermpath), UK. Dr Bakshi is a consultant dermatopathologist at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, UK, where she has been working since 2012. She completed her medical degree from the University of Pune (India) and completed her MD pathology at PGIMER, Chandigarh (India), before coming to UK in 2003. She holds the FRCpath degree and the Royal College Diploma in Dermatopathology. Dr Bakshi is a member of the executive committee of British Society of Dermatopathology. She has a keen interest in teaching and regularly delivers talks in regional and national dermatology/pathology meetings. Inflammatory skin pathology is her particular area of interest. |

Dr Phillip McKee Dr Phillip McKee MB Bch BAO MD FRCPath qualified in medicine 1972 at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. This was followed by pathology training at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists in 1978. He then completed a Dermatopathology Fellowship at St John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London. He was appointed to the Faculty at St Thomas' Hospital Medical School in London in 1979 and subsequently to the Faculty of St John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in 1992. In 1989 he was made Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and in 1992 was awarded his Doctorate in Medicine by Queen's University of Belfast In 1991. In conjunction with Professor N A Wright of the Royal Postgraduate Hospital in London, he designed and implemented the regulations for the Royal College of Pathologists' Diploma in Dermatopathology, which represents the United Kingdom equivalent of the American Boards in Dermatopathology. Dr Phillip McKee was a member of the Dermatopathology Examiners Subcommittee of the Royal College of Pathologists from 1992-1998 and chairman from 1995-1998. In 1998, Dr McKee was recruited to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston as Director of Dermatopathology and Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. While there he received NIH funding for his involvement in two major research studies. He moved to Arizona in 2004 where he has worked on several new books including the 4th edition of Pathology of the Skin, a book on cutaneous appendage tumors with Michal Michal and Dmitry Kazakov from the Czech Republic and an atlas with bulleted text entitled “High Yield Dermatopathology� co-authored with Nooshin Brinster, Vince Liu and Hafeez Diwan. All of these have been recently published. He is currently working on an “Atlas of Basic Dermatopathology� with Richard Carr and Nooshin Brinster. The 3rd edition of Pathology of the Skin was awarded the first prize certificate in the Dermatology category in The Royal Society of Medicine and Society of Authors 2005 Annual Medical Book Competition and first prize certificate in the Dermatology Category in the British Medical Association 2005 Annual Medical Book Competition. Dr McKee spends a considerable time visiting medical centers both in the United States and abroad to lecture and present slide seminars and also has a private non-USA consultation practice. He does however offer free curbside opinions in the United States. He is author/co-author of 169 original articles and author or editor of 12 textbooks with 3 foreign language translations. He was awarded the Elson B Helwig lecture award in 2003 and was made honorary lifetime member of the American Society of Dermatopathology in 2009 and the British Society for Dermatopathology in 2010. | Dr Mark A. Hurt Mark A. Hurt, MD, is a dermatopathologist in the Department of Cutaneous Pathology at WCP Laboratories in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Dr. Hurt was reared in Missouri, where he graduated in 1982 from the University Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri. After his pathology residency, also at the University of Missouri, he completed a dermatopathology fellowship in St. Louis, Missouri. He began his career as a dermatopathologist in 1988 as an assistant professor of pathology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. In 1991, he moved back to Missouri and joined the pathology staff of St. John's Mercy Medical Center until 1997, when he formed WCP laboratories with several other pathologists. Currently, he and two other dermatopathologists have a busy and challenging private practice within the corporate structure of WCP Laboratories. Dr. Hurt's academic interests are in the fields of the philosophy of diagnosis, dermatopathology in historical perspective, and in presentations of dermatopathologic conditions with clinicopathologic correlation. He has written on cutaneous anatomy, adnexal tumors, as well as general chapters about dermatopathology -- and he has written primary articles on specific conditions. He has co-authored a recent monograph on the subject of "dysplasia" & "atypia" that addresses why he considers those terms inappropriate for use in the practice of dermatopathology. | Dr Mona Abdel Halim Mona R.E. Abdel Halim, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Dermatology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. Dr. Abdel Halim was born in the United Kingdom, 1971. She spent her child hood and adolescence moving with her family between United Kingdom, Libya and Saudi Arabia. Finally she settled in Egypt, her home country, where she was graduated in 1994 from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University with a first degree honor. After her dermatology residency, at the Dermatology Department, Cairo University Hospital, she started her subspecialty training in Dermatopathology under the supervision of her Professor, El-Darouti M.A., Fellowship of Dermatopathology, New York University. She has both masters and doctorate degrees in dermatology, and with great educational support received from Dr Philip McKee’s website, mckeedermpath.com, and from Dr Ackerman’s website, Derm101, she succeeded in the ICDP-UEMS board certifying exam in Dermatopathology held in Frankfurt in December 2010 and received her Diploma in Dermatopathology. Since then, she is working officially as a dermatopathologist in addition to being a clinical dermatologist. Together with one of her colleagues, Dr El Nabarawy E., she founded her private practice, DermaPATH, where she works in addition to her university career. Dr. Abdel Halim is a senior member of the Dermatopathology Unit in the Dermatology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. The unit is responsible for diagnosis of skin biopsies taken in the department, case presentations with clinicopathological correlations, and teaching dermatopathology for residents, post graduates and interested dermatologists or pathologists. Also the unit is active in dermatopathology related research. Dr Abdel Halim has structured the dermatopathology curriculum delivered for postgraduate students in the Dermatology Department. She has co-authored many interesting case reports published in international journals. | Dr Iskander H. Chaudhry Consultant Dermatopathologist, Manchester Royal InfirmaryDr Iskander Chaudhry is a consultant histopathologist working at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Manchester University. He graduated from Manchester’s School of Medicine in 1996 and then embarked on a career in Pathology, training in the Mersey Deanery. | Dr Richard A. Logan Retired Consultant DermatologistDr Richard A. Logan is a retired Consultant Dermatologist who practised in South Wales, UK. He qualified in Medicine from Bristol University in 1977. His interest in Histopathology was initially stimulated during a Pathology job as a junior doctor. Having toyed with the idea of specialising in Pathology he eventually opted for Dermatology, training at St. John’s Hospital and the Institute of Dermatology in London in the 1980’s. There his interest in Dermatopathology was greatly stimulated by contact with world leaders in the subject. The departure from Cardiff of several pathology teachers in the early “noughties” left a void which Richard has attempted to fill by teaching Dermatopathology to generations of Dermatology trainees over the last 15 years or so. Retirement, and the restrictions imposed by the 2020 pandemic has given Richard time to study intensively the wonderful collection of material on DermpathPRO. |
