Spongiosis
About the condition
Spongiosis is derived from the Latin & Greek term spongia and implies intercellular edema of the “spongy†(prickle cell) layer of the epidermis or mucosal squamous epithelia.
Initially it results in separation of the keratinocytes making the desmosomes very prominent.
