Glomus tumour

Operations Pathhub

Case 99 Oct 10 (P. McKee)  Rather uniform monotony of cells suggested poroma, but there is a suggestion of cells lining up in glomus fashion.

Case 237   May 2011 (IH Chaudhry) (*teaching)

Case 298   Aug 2011 (P. McKee)  M 32 painful nodule arm (*teaching)

Beautiful teaching example

Case 1229 10.3.15  (U. Sundram)  M 40 sub-ungual (*teaching)

Classical – slides rather eosinophilic

Case 1303   2.6.15 (M. Hurt)  M 53 arm

Good close-up cytology of glomus cells: perinuclear vacuole; bubbly eosinophilic cytoplasm

Case 1948  16.11.17  (IH Chaudhry)  F 65 toe ? pyogenic granuloma

Not at all typicalVery solid, lacking the normal double layer of cells or obvious vascularity, and rather epithelioidSome thought epithelioid DF.

IH: +ve CD34 and SMA. -ve: S100, p63, EMA, Desmin and AE1AE3.

Case 1965 11.12.17 (L. Yu) 33 sub-ungual

Again not at all typicalThis one is biphasic with pale myxoid areas and darker cellular areasThese presumably are the glomus cells (SMA +ve) but not typical.

Case 2171 4.10.18  (R. Perret) M 30 acral

Typical cytology with some mucinous changeStrong +ve stain with h-Caldesmon (smooth muscle stain)

DD Myoepithelioma

Case 2658 14.9.20 (IH Chaudhry) M 62 forearm – previous lipoma excision (*teaching)

Case 2945  20.10.21 (H. Diwan) M 38 elbow mass

SMA +veUnusual site for glomus, and a good case could be made for synovial metaplastic cyst with haemorrhage.

Case 4008 1.6.22 (H. Diwan)  M 66 lesion upper arm

Very heavily pigmented (presumably haemosiderin)

Case 4175  20.1.23 (IH Chaudhury) M 56 lesion on thigh

Case 4218  22.3.23 (H. Diwan) M 55 ?cyst, hand

Case 4471  11.3.24 (M. Abdel-Halim) M 45 forearm nodule

Case 4492 9.4.24 (U. Sundram) M 29 nail bed tumour

Doesn’t show the classical cytology.
